"This One Takes The Cake"
I think by now I am able to call myself a "Union Square Personality Hotels Connoisseur," as I have stayed at the overwhelming majority their boutique hotels in downtown San Francisco. My first experience with the company was this establishment, Hotel Union Square, and it still remains, by far, my best experience.
This hotel has an amazing central location (just one block up from Powell St. BART station) and wonderful modern décor-two huge pluses for me.
Actually, let me tell you about the décor because I like it that much. Very few hotels seem to be able to pull off the hip contemporary look naturally but Union Square does it. The bed was enormously ginormous and came complete with a padded headboard (!), blue LED lamps, an iPod stereo and the softest absolutely softest down comforter. Still not enough for you? The room (Number 405, for you Death Cab fans) had two full sized sofas and a chair, which were all legitly comfortable! The walls that were not painted in beautiful gun metal gray or wine red were wrapped in windows that looked down onto Powell St. and the Cable Car turn around; while the ceiling was covered with some crazy awesome oversized bubble-wrap texture.
After typing all of that, I just realized this hotel takes the cake for the best hotel I have stayed at in San Francisco, boutique or otherwise.
"Wonderful Boutique Hotel, Great Location!"
I've always liked Personality Hotels and figured a weekend get-away- with my fiancé was the perfect time to stay at one, given that there are a few in San Fran. I spoke with a very friendly, very helpful rep for Personality Hotels named Marilyn and she recommended Hotel Union Square. Seriously, it was nestled in the best location -in the heart of Union Square. We were surrounded by transportation to/from everything, and there were stores/restaurants all around us. The hotel itself was very stylish, very charming. We loved our room, the Executive King. The bed was AMAZING...soooo heavenly.
This hotel was perfect for us and went above our expectations. Hoping to return again this summer!
"Difficult to Find a Winning Hotel Like This!"
A group of girlfriends and I decided we wanted to get away for a weekend to do what girlfriends do best: Shop, eat, drink and party! The hotel has a very modern feel. In the lobby, you see plush chairs/couches, beautiful artwork, and an outside view of the bustling shopping district known as Union Square. Red and white wines were set out for anyone who wanted to enjoy some afternoon wine tasting.
My favorite part of the hotel was the plush beds adored with goose down comforters and plush, goose down pillows! They were so comfortable that we didn't want to leave the room! The bathrooms were clean and neat (I am very picky about hotel bathrooms), and stocked nicely with the usual toiletries.
We had a flat screen TV, a huge closet, and lots of space to move around. Just like any big city, it's hard to find hotels that actually allow ample space for movement. Size was a huge plus. The view of the bustling Union Square district was an added bonus as well. The most important piece of all was location, location, location. You're either a few blocks or a taxi ride away from tons of shopping, restaurants, downtown historic sites, and other local attractions.
I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice stay in the beautiful city of SF!
"Most Impressed!"
Regarding your hotel and my stay, I was most impressed...And as you well know, the real essence of a successful hotel or inn is not the gold plating on the walls-- it is the human interactions with staff that really make for a most memorable stay. And in the case of Hotel Union Square, the wonderful, charming and sincere staff, from concierge to front desk, to every single housekeeper encountered, were all equally sweet and friendly and most sincerely welcoming. I cannot find a singe negative to mention. Every single aspect, including the room and amenities were first-class.
Thank you once again for the memorable hospitality!
"So Nice I Could Live Here"
This being my first trip to San Francisco, I had no idea where to stay. I chose the Hotel Union Square based solely on price. When I arrived, I couldn't believe how nice it was. The staff was wonderfully attentive and the room was very modern and up to date and very clean. The bed was oh so comfortable. Every night around 5 they have a little wine party in the lobby for the guests. It's a great way to meet travelers from other countries and compare restaurant favorites in the San Francisco area. The hotel couldn't be more centrally located. I took the BART train in from the airport and the hotel is only about a block away once you get above ground. Also, the trolley cars run right outside and there is no shortage of shopping and fine dining establishment’s just minutes away. Yes, you could stay at fancier hotels and pay far more, but it wouldn't be any better than what you get at the Hotel Union Square. When I go back, this is definitely my first choice.
