*What a lovely boutique type hotel. Remodeled, modern, clean, friendly staff, great parking deal for Union Square area, it's right were you want to be for shopping and nightlife. We had the pleasure of staying in a suite and I'd say ...it's well worth the money. Great customer service will get my business every time. The owner actually called me to thank us for our business based on an e-mail I sent regarding our stay. Impressive!
*I think by now I am able to call myself a "Union Square Personality Hotels Connoisseur," as I have stayed at the overwhelming majority their boutique hotels in downtown San Francisco. My first experience with the company was this establishment, Hotel Union Square and it still remains, by far, my best experience.
This hotel has an amazing central location (just one block up from Powell St. BART station) and wonderful modern décor-two huge pluses for me.
Actually, let me tell you about the décor because I like it that much. Very few hotels seem to be able to pull off the hip contemporary look naturally but Union Square does it. The bed was enormously ginormous and came complete with a padded headboard (!), blue LED lamps, an iPod stereo and the softest absolutely softest down comforter. Still not enough for you? The room (Number 405, for you Death Cab fans) had two full sized sofas and a chair, which were all really comfortable! The walls that were not painted in beautiful gun metal gray or wine red were wrapped in windows that looked down onto Powell St. and the Cable Car turn around; while the ceiling was covered with some crazy awesome oversized bubble-wrap texture.
After typing all of that, I just realized this hotel takes the cake for the best hotel I have stayed at in San Francisco, boutique or otherwise.
*The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were really helpful and completely satisfied with our all needs. Besides, the location of the hotel was UNBEATABLE!. Because It was really close to the cable car turn-around and all public transportation needs. I cannot help saying that this hotel is the best location for shopping and dining and more. Our experience with this hotel was exceptionally AWESOME and would stay again! Thanks hotel union square for making our pleasant trip in SF!
* I enjoyed staying here and was sorry I couldn't stay longer. The hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of San Francisco close to everything. The staff was very friendly and professional, especially the manager, Tony Abboud. My room was very large and nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. The wine reception in the lobby in the afternoon was a nice touch. Highly recommended!
* Just stayed at the hotel and loved it. We stayed in Room 405...excellent. It was a beautiful suite with views of the street and cable car turn-a -round. It was Christmas time so I threw open the windows and could hear the beautiful sounds of the city. Christmas music, laughing, bells, the trolly. It was awesome. It is noisy when you stay on the street side but that is what I love. The room was spotless, modern and very comfortable. I loved the decor and the room set up. We were on the corner so we had 6 almost floor to ceiling windows. I could watch all the hustle and bustle. My husband was in SF on business and we typically stay in the big 5 star hotels but I wanted to try something with more of a local flair. It was worth it way more personality. We only had a few complaints and I emailed the hotel with those and they responded ASAP and worked to rectify them. You will not be disappointed in this hotel and the location is awesome. If you have teens the H&M store is next door and you can see the entrance to Westfield Mall from the room. Have a great time and enjoy SF.
* We looked forward to this hotel after reading the reviews AND reading about the famous connection to Dashiell Hammett. After a week in Las Vegas we were looking forward to a completely different feel. The lobby is great, looks and feels authentic with a modern twist, old films playing in the background on the flat screen tv. I should have worn a hat! The staff were very friendly and approachable, always willing to help and advise, which put us at ease. We had a room upgrade to one facing Powell street, plenty of space, 2 large double beds, nice bathroom. The noise from outside was offset by the view of people, cars and trams we had every day! We were here to see as much as we could, the sound of trams was pleasing and evocative. Free coffee in the morning and wine in the evening was a very nice touch and a useful way to start conversations.
