Dashiell Hammett's Favorite San Francisco Hotel
Stay in Dashiell Hammett's favorite San Francisco hotel.
The 131-room, boutique style Hotel Union Square was originally the Golden West Hotel, built in 1913 for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition. In the 1950s, the hotel was renamed the Golden State Hotel. Personality Hotels purchased the building in 1980 and opened it two years later as the Hotel Union Square.
The hotel has just completed the spacious Dashiell Hammett Suite, dedicated to the author best known for his 1930 novel, "The Maltese Falcon." Hammett loved the hotel so much that he booked a suite there for his bride-to-be, Josephine Dolan, on the night before their 1921 wedding.
