HOTEL UNION SQUARE PILLOW TALK ARCHIVE

February, 2007
I very much enjoyed my most recent stay, as usual. I stay about once a month and, as you can guess from that, I love this place. The staff is great, always very pleasant and super helpful, and the atmosphere is incomparable. Stay at Hotel Union Square, eat at John's Grill, wear a fedora. Too bad the speakeasy is closed-or perhaps it still exists in some phantom form in the basement?

Noirishly yours,
Connie

Got an email asking for comments about my recent stay (just one night, alas, on the 22nd). I just wanted to say "well done". Hotel is nicely renovated, room was comfortable (though heating was a little iffy early on). Well laid out space for a small room. Wifi was also reliable, which is a must for me.

Staff, particularly the concierge, was very helpful and very friendly without trying to sound like my best buddy. Your website was also useful before I ever arrived - very good directions to the parking lot, for example.

This was my first stay, but definitely not my last. Thank you.

Our family of four spent a couple of holiday nights at your hotel and we loved its proximity to the trollies, the best shopping in SF, and excellent choices in food. The Hotel Union Square is a really neat old downtown hotel with a very modern feeling. People watching from above Powell St. is a built-in bonus. Your staff was great and we enjoyed our stay very much!

My daughter and I enjoyed our stay with you. In fact, I'd be happy to move in permanently. The location is terrific - right in the heart of eveything - but with a room that was lovely & quiet. This hotel is a gem and look forward to staying with you again.

We enjoyed our stay as always. The wine in the lobby is a nice touch. We enjoyed meeting and talking with other hotel guests from Chicago, Southern California and Oregon who had never stayed at the Hotel Union Square. We shared our experiences to supplement the hotel history above the Counter.

My parents first brought me to the then "Golden Gate Hotel" in May of 1957 for a birthday trip to San Francisco and a Giant's game. I remember the Fish Grotto across the street with wooden mermaid that now resides on the 6th floor. We returned several times over my growing up years. Then I introduced my fiance' to the hotel and then when we were married we brought our children to stay there on our family trips to San Francisco. On February 3rd we will celebrate our 39th Wedding Anniversary. Eventually, after college our daughter chose to live in San Francisco. She met her future husband at a roof top party when the "Blue Angels" were performing. We have also come to San Francisco and the hotel with our grandchildren, our son's children. This past March 11th (2006) we reserved rooms for ourselves and our guests for our daughter's wedding at the Presidio Chapel. When we stayed with you last, on the weekend of Dec. 8th, we were celebrating their first "married Christmas" with them because they were going to England to have Christmas with his family.

I hope this gives you a feel for how your hotel has been a warm and constant memory for me and now my family too!

Sincerely,
- Judy

Folks at the front desk and the concierge were friendly and helpful. The price was excellent and the location ideal for access to downtown SF. I would definitely choose to stay there again--or try one of the sister hotels of this group.

I have given the name The Hotel Union Square rave reviews. The great service I received, being disabled, was incredible. I always felt like I was coming home not to a hotel. Being disabled is hard enough and any joy I get is appreciated.

Thank you,

I stayed at the Hotel Union Square for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was a little bigger than expected. The welcome "goody" bag and the Starbucks gift cards were very nice and useful complimentary extras. I took the BART from SFO to the Powell Street Station and the hotel was convenient and easy to find. All hotel personnel were friendly and helpful. Good cafes were convenient and nearby. I didn't get a chance to visit the fitness center at your sister hotel. I would prefer a fitness center in the hotel. Nonetheless, I would recommend your hotel to any travelers to San Francisco and will definitely stay there again.

Thanks for your great service.

Hi-

We loved your hotel! All the staff were friendly and helpful, our room was perfect for our stay - the cozy room - We loved the little "goodie" bag that was left - a really cool touch and makes your stay personal. We viewed the hotel prior to checking in and you even had wine for guests to help themselves too, it was great and another really nice touch!

We wouldn't hesitate to stay again and would be interested to know if you have any other hotels outside of San Francisco?

Thanks for looking after us!

Recently spent a couple of days in your Hotel very good the city was also fantastic very much like Sydney. I must commend your concierge Tom Steelle being one of the first people you meet in a hotel besides front desk this man is an assett to your company his knowledge and friendly persona is a credit(nothing was a problem to him). When we return and we will we will look forward to seeing this man greeting us (we spent 32 days in U.S.A and this man was the best concierge during our time) Oh by the way we started our trip in New York NY and ended it in Seattle WA so we saw a lot of Hotels. Congratulations and good on you TOM!!

We stayed at the hotel over the busy 4th of July weekend and were so impressed. The location is amazing next to all the great shopping and restaurants. The staff is courteous and friendly. The rooms were charming and clean. It is a budget traveler's dream. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to the city. Thanks for setting a new standard.

We stayed at your Hotel April 11-14. We just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay. Everyone was so nice and we couldn't have made it without your concierge. He was fantastic. We hope to come back to San Francisco and stay with you again. Thank you.

Hello all and especially Tom and Will, Dennis and every one else- sorry I cannot remember all of your names. Taking a break from a very heavy work schedule, I decided to drop you a few lines to thank you for everything you did to facilitate my stay in San Francisco, the advice and guidance to help avoid tourist pitfalls and your warmth and kindness in dealing with me and your patience with my endless chattering. As you see, I have not forgotten you and believe me, nor will I in the future. Kind, polite, warm and friendly people are a rarity nowdays. Take care and - maybe - we will be lucky enough to meet again in the future, either here or there. Warm regards,
- Nadia Fahmi, Athens, Greece

I am finally returning to San Francisco to stay at the Hotel Union Square. My daughters are 16 and 18. Your hotel is so well located. It's right by H&M now! We also enjoy going to the MOMA and the Metreon. There are other stores and restaurants in the area that are within walking distance that that we like to go to. Thank you for your offer of an upgrade and a VIP treatment. Happy New Year!

Thank you for your hospitality this past weekend at the Hotel Union Square. My friends & I enjoyed our stay in your hotel, from check in to check out. Here are some of the specific things we enjoyed most:

The parking attendant was a bit uncommunicative, but helped us figure out the odd situation and was friendly despite our obvious lack of big-city parking know-how. Our car was retrieved quickly when we checked out.

At check in we were told that the hotel was booked up for the room we reserved. This was disheartening, but the desk clerk (I'm sorry I don't remember anyone's name, she was on duty Friday afternoon/evening) immediately called another property. When she couldn't find room there, she immediately upgraded us to a double queen. That was a nice surprise.

We were four, and three of four girls, so we used plenty of towels. Towel service to the room was prompt and courteous both times.

The location of the hotel, for the price we paid, couldn't have been better. It was a real joy to be able to step out onto the sidewalk and straight onto a cable car.

The concierge on Saturday night was extremely cordial and very helpful. He made sure we knew how to get to SBC park and back with no trouble.

Our check out was smooth and easy.

Not having any worries about our accomodations was a real perk on a trip that was riddled with potential mishaps. So, again, I thank you for being a big part of our wonderful vacation in San Francisco. Your properties will be the first I check should I return to the SF area.

I wanted to take a moment and thank you again for your assistance in securing a registration at the Hotel Union Square this past Saturday. My girlfriend and I throughly enjoyed our stay in San Francisco (the weather was extremely cooperative compared to Sacramento!) and the Junior Suite that you upgraded us into was lovely! I enjoyed sitting at the window watching the crowds move up and down Powell after dark. I look forward to my next visit within the next month or so and would be happy at either the Kensington Park (which I adore) or the Hotel Union Square.
